Work Permit

If foreign students want to work in Taiwan (whether on campus or off campus), they must apply for and obtain a work permit in accordance with regulations before they can work. If they fail to apply for a work permit in accordance with regulations, they will be employed as a worker for others and will be subject to new penalties. Anyone with more than NT$30,000 and less than NT$150,000 will be fined and ordered to leave the country! The number of working hours for foreign students is limited to 20 hours per week, except during winter and summer vacations.

2. Precautions

1. The work permit period is 1 year. Please be sure to pay attention to the validity period. There will be community penalties.
2. It is recommended to apply for an electronic work permit so that you can download it in the system yourself (please download it within 7 days after passing the review. Please note! The electronic work permit is only allowed to be downloaded once and cannot be downloaded repeatedly).
3. After submitting the application, you must wait 7-10 working days for review. If approved, you will receive an email notification.

3. Other relevant provisions

1. For foreign students, overseas students, and students from Hong Kong and Macao with a work permit, the working hours are up to 20 hours per week (excluding winter and summer vacations).
2. For those who fail to comply with the provisions of the preceding paragraph, the Ministry of Labor may revoke their work permit in accordance with the provisions of the Employment Service Act. Those who fail to apply for a work permit in accordance with regulations and are hired as workers for others will be fined not less than NT$30,000 but not more than NT$150,000 according to the Employment Service Act, and they should be ordered to leave the country immediately.
3. According to the "Employers' Licensing and Management Measures for Employers' Employment of Foreigners", overseas students, students from Hong Kong and Macao, and foreign students who come to Taiwan to study in a formal academic system can apply for a work permit after enrolling in Taiwan; foreign students who come to Taiwan to study language courses must complete 1 Applications can be made only after 10 years of age.
4. If you apply for a work permit between October 1st of the first semester of each academic year and end on September 30th of the following year, the permit period shall not exceed September 30th of the following year. However, those who submit a copy of their student ID card with a registration seal for the first semester of the next academic year or provide a registration certificate stamped by the school registration team during the application period are not subject to the aforementioned restriction that the work permit period shall not exceed September 30 of the following year. For foreign students who come to Taiwan to study language courses, the registration period for the current period they apply for is the work permit period. In addition, the work permit will lose its validity due to suspension of school, withdrawal from school, graduation, completion of Chinese language learning or technical training phased courses.
